A sound-therapy method using tuning forks on and around the body to restore coherence and soften the charge of stored patterns.
Biofield Tuning
Using sound to bring greater coherence to the energy field
Sometimes we understand an experience intellectually but still feel its effects within us.
You may know why a pattern exists, recognize where it began, and have already done meaningful work around it—yet still find yourself reacting in the same way. The emotional charge may remain, even after the story has been consciously processed.
Biofield Tuning works with the possibility that our experiences are not held only in the conscious mind or physical body. Within this modality, they may also leave an energetic imprint in the electromagnetic field surrounding the body.
Using the coherent vibration of tuning forks, Biofield Tuning listens for areas of resistance or distortion within that field and introduces sound to help the system return to a more balanced state.
What is Biofield Tuning?
Biofield Tuning is a sound-based energy healing modality developed by Eileen Day McKusick.
Beginning in 1996, McKusick spent many years using tuning forks in and around the body and observing how their sound changed as they moved through different areas of a person’s field.
She noticed that the tuning forks sometimes produced changes in tone, volume, rhythm, overtones, and vibration at particular distances from the body. Through repeated observation, she came to associate these changes with emotional experiences, periods of stress, and patterns from different points in a person’s life.
These observations eventually developed into Biofield Tuning and what is known as the Biofield Anatomy Map.
During a session, the tuning fork serves two purposes. It helps the practitioner locate areas that sound or feel less coherent, and it introduces a steady vibration into those areas.
Within the framework of the modality, the body and field may use that coherent frequency as a reference point through which stored tension and energetic resistance can begin to reorganize.
What is the biofield?
The term biofield is used to describe the energetic and electromagnetic activity associated with and surrounding the physical body.
Within Biofield Tuning, the biofield is understood as being closely connected with the conscious and subconscious mind. It is believed to contain information associated with memories, emotions, stress, relationships, beliefs, and significant life experiences.
You can think of it somewhat like the atmosphere surrounding your body.
An experience may have happened years ago, but the energetic charge associated with it may remain present within the field. This may contribute to familiar emotional reactions, recurring beliefs, physical tension, or the feeling that part of you is still responding to something that has already ended.
Biofield Tuning does not require you to consciously remember or describe every experience held within the field. The tuning fork is used to listen for areas where the energy appears less fluid or harmonious.
The Biofield Anatomy Map
Biofield Tuning works with a map in which the space surrounding the body is associated with the timeline of a person’s life.
The outer portions of the field are understood to relate to earlier experiences, beginning around gestation and birth. As the practitioner moves closer to the body, the field is associated with progressively later periods of life, leading toward the present.
The left and right sides of the field are also understood to carry different relational and emotional themes.
The practitioner does not begin a session already knowing what will be found. The map provides orientation, while the sound and movement of the tuning fork help guide the process.
Sometimes an area in the field appears to correspond clearly with a remembered experience. At other times, the information may feel less obvious, relate to early childhood, or connect with a pattern the client has never consciously associated with the issue they brought to the session.
The purpose is not to create a perfect historical account. It is to locate areas where the field appears to be holding charge and support greater movement through those areas.
How does the tuning fork interact with the field?
A tuning fork produces a steady, organized frequency.
When the fork is activated in an area that feels relatively clear, its sound and vibration may remain smooth and consistent. When it moves through an area of greater resistance, the practitioner may hear changes in the sound or feel a different quality of vibration.
These changes can include:
-
Fluctuations in volume
-
Changes in pitch or tone
-
Additional overtones or undertones
-
A sense of static, roughness, or distortion
-
Resistance in the movement of the fork
-
A feeling that the vibration becomes absorbed or muted
The practitioner pauses in these areas and continues activating the fork.
Within the Biofield Tuning framework, the coherent frequency of the fork is thought to help the field reorganize around a steadier rhythm. As this happens, the sound may become clearer and the sense of resistance may begin to lessen.
I then continue moving the tuning fork toward the body, gradually working through the field.
This process is sometimes described as “combing” the biofield.
Why might an old experience still affect the field?
An experience does not necessarily stop affecting us simply because it has ended or because we understand it.
You may have talked about an event, forgiven someone involved, recognized the lesson, or consciously decided to move forward. Yet your body or emotional system may still react when something in the present resembles the original experience.
Within Biofield Tuning, this is understood as evidence that some of the energetic charge remains active in the field.
The modality may be useful when you feel that:
-
You have mentally processed something but still react to it
-
A familiar emotional response arises before you can control it
-
A pattern seems to operate below conscious awareness
-
You feel triggered without fully understanding why
-
You repeatedly return to the same internal state
-
An old experience feels complete intellectually but unresolved energetically
Biofield Tuning does not require you to relive the entire event. The work focuses primarily on the energetic charge associated with it.
What happens during a session?
Biofield Tuning sessions can be conducted in person or remotely.
At the beginning of the session, we discuss what you are experiencing and whether there is a particular pattern, emotion, relationship, or area of your life you would like to explore.
You do not need to share every detail. A simple intention is enough, and you are never required to disclose something you would prefer to keep private.
During an in-person session
You remain fully clothed, other than removing your shoes, and lie comfortably on a treatment table.
I begin with a grounding sequence using tuning forks on or near the body. I then activate a tuning fork near the outer edge of your field, generally several feet away, and slowly move inward toward the physical body.
As I move through the field, I listen for changes in the sound and feel for areas of resistance.
When I encounter a charged area, I pause and continue working with the tuning fork until the sound begins to become clearer or the resistance lessens.
Weighted tuning forks may also be placed gently on specific areas of the body. These forks create a more physical vibration that can be felt through the tissues.
During a remote session
You lie down in a quiet and comfortable place while we remain connected through a phone or video call.
I work with your field remotely using the same general principles and describe what I am hearing or observing as the session unfolds.
You do not need to concentrate intensely or visualize the process. Your role is primarily to rest, remain open to the experience, and notice any sensations, emotions, memories, or changes that arise.
What role do you play during the session?
Biofield Tuning is generally more passive than Sacred Anatomy or Reiki Journeying.
You are not required to enter a guided inner journey, and the session usually does not involve extensive conversation or analysis. Much of the work occurs through sound and your system’s response to it.
I may tell you what I am hearing in the tuning fork or mention the approximate age associated with an area of the field. I may also ask whether a particular emotion, sensation, or memory feels relevant.
You are free to share as much or as little as you wish.
Paying attention to your physical sensations can be helpful. You may notice where the body tightens, relaxes, warms, tingles, or responds emotionally as the fork moves through the field.
This awareness can help reconnect the conscious mind with patterns that may previously have operated below the surface.
What might a session feel like?
Every person experiences Biofield Tuning differently.
You may notice:
-
Tingling or warmth
-
Waves or movement of energy
-
A sense of pressure releasing
-
Changes in breathing
-
Muscle twitching or involuntary movement
-
Memories or images
-
Emotional waves
-
Sudden tiredness
-
Deep relaxation
-
A feeling of lightness or spaciousness
-
Little or no obvious sensation
Some people experience a clear emotional or physical response during the session. Others notice the effects more gradually over the following days.
You may not always have a major realization or understand precisely what was released.
Biofield Tuning often appears to work at a subconscious level. The most meaningful evidence of change may be that a familiar situation no longer affects you as strongly, you recover more quickly from an emotional trigger, or you feel less charge around something that previously felt overwhelming.
Not feeling dramatic sensations does not mean that nothing occurred.
What can Biofield Tuning support?
Biofield Tuning may be helpful when you want to work with:
Emotional patterns that continue despite conscious understanding
You may already know where a pattern comes from but feel that your system has not fully released it.
Triggers and automatic reactions
The modality may support patterns that seem to arise before the conscious mind has time to intervene.
Stress and energetic tension
The steady vibration of the tuning forks can encourage deep relaxation and may help the system move out of a highly charged state.
Experiences that are difficult to remember or verbalize
Some patterns may relate to early childhood, gestation, family conditioning, or periods of life that are not clearly remembered.
Feeling stuck
Biofield Tuning may be useful when you sense that something remains unresolved but do not know exactly what it is or how to approach it.
Greater body awareness
The session can help you notice how your body responds to particular emotions, memories, or areas of the field.
Energetic maintenance
You do not need to have a major issue to receive a session. Some people use Biofield Tuning periodically to support relaxation, clarity, and a greater sense of internal balance.
Conscious and subconscious healing
One of the most important things to understand about Biofield Tuning is that the session does not always produce a clear story.
The field may lead us toward an experience that you consciously remember, but it may also bring attention to something from early childhood, a pattern connected with several different periods of life, or an area that does not seem obviously related to your original intention.
Healing is rarely organized into clean and isolated categories.
A present-day fear may be connected with an earlier experience of uncertainty. A relationship pattern may share an emotional frequency with experiences from childhood. A belief about yourself may have been reinforced repeatedly across many years.
Biofield Tuning may work through several layers of the same pattern rather than revealing one single cause.
For this reason, progress can be subtle. Instead of leaving with a dramatic explanation, you may simply begin to notice that something inside you feels quieter.
An honest word about expectations
Biofield Tuning does not guarantee that an emotional, physical, or energetic concern will resolve in one session.
Some people notice a clear shift immediately. Others experience gradual changes over several sessions. Some concerns may respond well to the modality, while others may not.
The work may reduce the charge associated with a pattern without removing every aspect of it. A situation can involve the mind, body, relationships, circumstances, choices, nervous system, and energy field. No single modality necessarily addresses every dimension.
I also do not interpret every change in the tuning fork as proof of a particular memory or event.
The Biofield Anatomy Map provides a framework, but the information that arises should be approached with curiosity rather than treated as an unquestionable historical record.
Your direct experience remains more important than forcing the session into a predetermined explanation.
What does the research say?
Research specifically examining Biofield Tuning is still limited.
An early feasibility study explored remotely delivered Biofield Tuning sessions for a small group of people experiencing anxiety. Participants reported reductions in anxiety and other subjective changes following three sessions.
These findings are encouraging, but the study was small and did not include a control group. Larger and more rigorous studies are needed before firm conclusions can be drawn.
Another small study examined whether different practitioners could identify disturbances in similar locations within participants’ fields. This research explored consistency among practitioners rather than whether Biofield Tuning can treat a medical or psychological condition.
Biofield Tuning is therefore best understood as a complementary energetic and sound-based practice whose proposed mechanisms and broader effects remain under investigation.
You do not need to dismiss your personal experience simply because research is incomplete, but the current evidence should not be overstated.
How many session will I need?
The official Biofield Tuning approach commonly recommends beginning with a series of approximately three sessions because each session may build upon the previous one.
However, this is not a requirement or a guarantee that three sessions will resolve a particular concern.
A single session may be enough for you to experience the modality and decide whether it feels supportive. Longstanding or layered patterns may take more time, while other people prefer occasional sessions only when they feel drawn to them.
You are not required to commit to a package or ongoing schedule.
I encourage you to notice how you respond to the work and make decisions based on your own experience rather than assuming that more sessions are always necessary.
After the session
Many people feel relaxed, lighter, clearer, or more present after Biofield Tuning.
The effects may be immediate or unfold gradually over the next several days.
You may also temporarily experience:
-
Tiredness or a desire to sleep
-
Heightened emotions
-
Greater awareness of feelings that were previously suppressed
-
Headache or light-headedness
-
Vivid dreams
-
A desire for quiet or additional rest
-
These experiences are sometimes referred to within the modality as a “detox response.” However, not every uncomfortable symptom after a session should automatically be interpreted as energetic detoxification.
Listen to your body, rest as needed, drink water, and seek appropriate medical care for symptoms that are severe, concerning, or persistent.
Important cautions
Biofield Tuning may not be appropriate for everyone.
Additional caution is generally advised during pregnancy, with active cancer or terminal illness, following a recent concussion, or when a person has a pacemaker or another implanted electronic medical device.
These cautions do not mean that the modality has been proven to cause harm in every such circumstance. They reflect the guidance established by the Biofield Tuning organization and the need to avoid interfering with medical care or placing unnecessary strain on a vulnerable system.
Please contact me before booking if any of these circumstances apply to you.
Biofield Tuning should never be used as a reason to delay, discontinue, or replace medical or mental-health treatment.
Is Biofield Tuning right for me?
Biofield Tuning may be a good fit when you:
-
Feel drawn to sound-based healing
-
Want a session that is generally quiet and passive
-
Have consciously processed an experience but still feel its emotional charge
-
Notice automatic reactions or triggers that seem to operate below awareness
-
Want to explore patterns held within the energetic timeline
-
Prefer not to participate in a guided spiritual journey

Are curious about how your body and field respond to vibration
It may not be the best fit when you want:
-
Direct spiritual guidance or an internally guided journey
-
A detailed assessment of several different energetic systems
-
A medical or psychological diagnosis
-
Verification that a particular memory or interpretation is objectively true
-
A guaranteed physical, emotional, or spiritual result
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to talk about my past?
No. You may share an intention or general concern without revealing personal details. I may ask whether something feels relevant, but you always decide what you want to disclose.
Do I need to remember the experience connected with an area?
No. Some areas may relate to experiences you remember clearly, while others may not. The work does not depend on recovering a specific memory.
Can a session bring up emotions?
Yes. Emotions, memories, or physical sensations may arise as the tuning forks move through charged areas. You are encouraged to notice what emerges without forcing an interpretation.
Is Biofield Tuning painful?
The work is generally gentle. Tuning forks used on the body create vibration, while forks used in the field do not physically touch you. Tell me immediately if anything feels uncomfortable.
Can sessions be done remotely?
Yes. Biofield Tuning is offered remotely as well as in person. During a remote session, you rest comfortably while we remain connected by phone or video.
Do I need headphones for a remote session?
Headphones may make it easier to hear the tuning forks and my voice, but they are not necessarily required. Comfort and the ability to rest without interruption are most important.
Will you tell me exactly what happened at a certain age?
I may describe the approximate area or age indicated by the Biofield Anatomy Map and share what I hear in the tuning fork. This information should be treated as part of the modality’s interpretive framework, not as objective proof of a forgotten event.
What happens if I feel nothing?
Some people feel strong sensations, while others notice little during the session. The absence of a dramatic sensation does not necessarily determine whether the experience was meaningful.
Can Biofield Tuning treat a health condition?
Biofield Tuning is not medical or psychological treatment. It cannot diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent a health condition and should be used only as a complementary wellness practice.

Allow the noise to become quieter
You may already understand your story and still feel its charge.
Biofield Tuning offers a way to approach that charge without requiring you to analyze every part of it again. Through sound, stillness, and attention to the field, patterns that have remained active beneath conscious awareness may be given an opportunity to soften and reorganize.
You do not need to know exactly what is held within the field before beginning.
You only need to be willing to listen.
